Nelson Search and Rescue (NSAR) is a registered non profit society consisting of over 40 dedicated and highly skilled individuals who are capable of an organized response to assist local police, fire departments and BC Ambulance in a variety of areas.

The group consists of a Management Team, Initial Response Team, Rope Team, Swiftwater Team and general search and rescue personnel. These teams include Mountain Rescue Technicians, Rope Rescue Instructors, Canadian Avalanche  Technicians, Paramedics, Physicians, Swiftwater Rescue Technicians and Certified Helicopter Flight Rescue Systems practicioners.

The society is managed by a board of directors consisting of a coordinator and six directors. Director meetings are held the last Wednesday of each month.

General training is conducted on the first Wednesday of each month with additional weekend training usually quarterly. Individual teams train together on a regular basis as team members see fit.
